Not Celebrate?

For many of our members and friends, getting into the Christmas spirit has been particularly difficult this year.  There are health issues, family problems, job losses, broken relationships, unhealed hurts and losses of loved ones that make it hard to put your heart in to the Fa la la la la’s.  Ann Weem’s poem below is a great reminder to us each year that God did not come down into a world of perfectly decorated homes, harmonious families and economic prosperity. Christ made his entrance in a barn to two people who were poor and scared and unsure about what would happen next.  To fail to celebrate because we are too sad or too broke or too sick or too hurt or too broken would be to miss the point of Christmas altogether.

Not celebrate?
Your burden is too great to bear?
Your loneliness is intensified during this Christmas season?
Your tears have no end?
Not celebrate?
You should lead the celebration!
You should run through the streets
to ring the bells and sing the loudest!
You should fling the tinsel on the tree,
and open your house to your neighbors, and call them in to dance!
For it is you above all others who know the joy of Advent.
It is unto you that a Savior is born this day,
One who comes to lift your burden from your shoulders,
One who comes to wipe the tears from your eyes.
You are not alone,
for He is born this day to you.
