Ash Wednesday

Lent has begun.

Author and pastor Fredrick Buechner once noted that the 40 days of Lent make up roughly 1/10 of the year. 10 percent of the year. That’s the amount of money many people of faith donate toward their church or non-profits or a combination thereof.  So why not make Lent a tithe of time to God this year.  Be present to God’s presence. Be intentional about doing the work of Jesus Christ. Eliminate at least one of the distractions that keep you from being the kind of Christ follower you want to be.  Forty days of evaluating your priorities and commitments and looking at what you’d like to change. Forty days of paying close attention to how God is working in your life.

My Lenten discipline will be getting rid of a bag of stuff a day from my house (you can follow my progress at One Bag at a Time, but another goal is to try to find ways to slow life down at least a bit. I think I will have more luck with the bags, but am hoping to find success in the slowing as well.

Blessings to all this holy season
